Primary school teachers’ agitation

The All India Primary Teachers Federation (AIPTF) and its Delhi branch, the Akhil Delhi Prathmik Shikshak Sangh (ADPSS) held a protest dharna at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on February 21, 2020, to highlight their demands and pledge to continue the struggle.

The AIPTF represents nearly 3 million elementary school teachers all over India, with 2.3 million members in 25 states. They have been waging a consistent struggle to improve the quality of state-funded primary school education as well as to defend the rights of teachers.

The ADPSS has been agitating since 2006, against the New Pension Scheme, demanding revival of the Old Pension Scheme. They have submitted memoranda to the President, Prime Minister, Finance Minister and HRD Minister, requesting action on their demands.

The main demands of the agitating primary school teachers include withdrawal of New Pension Scheme and revival of the old pension scheme, implementation of the 7th Central Pay Commission for primary teachers, regularization of contract teachers, removal of anti-teacher provisions of the New Education Policy 2019, etc.

The AIPTF organized a series of agitations and meetings from February 21 to February 27, in different parts of the country, to press for their demands.
