On 9th August 2021, a protest demonstration was organized in the call of central trade unions at Ghari check in Ambikapur in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh. Hundreds of people took part in this demonstration even in heavy rains. Workers and government employees from different sectors of the economy took part in it.
Several regional worker organizations including the Third Grade Government Employees Union Chhattisgarh, Progressive Pensioners Welfare Association and Unions of Coal Workers, BSNL, Railway, Insurance and Banks, etc. and United Forum of Trade Unions Sarguja, Chhattisgarh Kisan Sabha etc. – took part in this demonstration, with the demand for a ban on privatization of public sector industries and resources, repeal of all three agricultural laws and cancellation of all four labor codes,
The leaders of all the participating organizations addressed the demonstrators. They strongly condemned the policies of privatization and liberalization and the sale of public resources and services to the private capitalists. Along with this, all the speakers demanded the repeal of all three anti-farmer laws and condemned the abrogation of the fundamental rights of workers through the four labor codes. Many other demands were also made like restoration of old pension scheme, free of cost equipment to health workers for protection from Covid-19 and risk allowance to them.
In conclusion, all the leaders warned the government that the people would not tolerate these attacks. The struggle against these anti-farmer, anti-worker, anti-people policies will continue.
