Bharat Bandh on 27 September deserves wholehearted support

Statement of Mazdoor Ekta Committee, 8 September, 2021

Samyukta Kisan Morcha, the united front of kisan unions, has given a call for Bharat Bandh on 27 September, 2021. That day will mark one year since the President of India approved the three anti-kisan laws passed by the parliament.  It will mark the completion of 10 months of the mass protests by kisans at the borders of Delhi.

The decision was taken at a two-day National Convention held at the Singhu Border on 25-26 August. It was attended by over 2000 delegates of kisan unions from 22 different states.

A resolution adopted at the convention said India is being handed over to big corporations and it will impact the livelihood of not just farmers, but also workers, students, youth and adivasis.  The convention passed resolutions against the privatisation of public assets, including the recently announced monetisation plan, and against the anti-worker labour codes.  It resolved to escalate the struggle against the anti-people policies of the Central Government.

Kisans have been demanding the withdrawal of three anti kisan laws that will result in bringing agricultural trade and storage of agricultural commodities under the domination of Indian and foreign multinationals. They are demanding a legal guarantee from the state that it will ensure that no kisan is forced to sell his produce at a price below an MSP. Furthermore, this MSP must be set at a level that is remunerative for the kisan. Kisans are also demanding the withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Act 2021, which will greatly increase the cost of production for kisans and ruin them.

Kisans have braved the scorching summer heat, the biting cold of the winter, and monsoon rains for ten months. Over 1000 kisans have sacrificed their lives in this struggle.  Yet the Central government has adamantly refused to fulfill their just demands.  It has deployed various methods to discredit the movement and split its ranks.  These methods have failed to shake the resolve of the kisans to continue with their agitation until their demands are met.

The demands of the Kisan Andolan have received wholehearted support from the unions of workers all over the country.

The struggle that is raging in our country is between an exploiting minority and the exploited majority.  On one side stands the capitalist class, headed by the Tatas, Ambanis, Birlas, Adanis and other monopoly houses.  On the other side stand the workers, peasants and all other toiling and oppressed people.

Mazdoor Ekta Committee extends wholehearted support to the Bharat Bandh on 27 September!
