Anganwadi workers step up their struggle for rights

The Anganwadi workers of Delhi are stepping up their struggle for reinstatement of 800 workers who had been terminated a few months back. These workers had been terminated for participating in actions organised by their union in defence of their rights.

The workers have held both the AAP government in Delhi and the BJP led Delhi Municipal Corporation responsible for making false promises and failing to heed to any of the demands of workers, including re-instatement of those unjustly terminated, proper wages, health measures, gratuity etc.

On November 4, Anganwadi workers in Delhi, organised under the banner of Delhi State Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union (DSAWHU), initiated a campaign to boycott the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Delhi Municipal Elections. Anganwadi workers began this campaign with a demonstration and rally near the AAP headquarters. They gave vent to their anger by burning posters and banners of the Aam Admi Party. The union has announced that 22,000 Anganwadi workers will actively prevent leaders of BJP and AAP from campaigning in the neighbourhoods where these workers live and work.
