31 years since the demolition of Babri Masjid:
Militant protest action against the communal politics of the ruling class

On 6th December, 2023, the Communist Ghadar Party along with several other organisations jointly held a militant protest action near Parliament.

31 years since the demolition of Babri MasjidThe Delhi police withdrew permission to hold the protest rally at the last minute. The official site for protests in Delhi — Jantar Mantar — was heavily barricaded and police prevented any protestor from coming into the site. In such a situation, a flash protest was organised on Parliament Street.

The common banner was unfurled. Women, youth, and other working people boldly held their placards high. Hundreds of working people who were passing by on the busy road stood by to watch the protest action.  The Delhi police was caught off guard. By the time hundreds of police men and police women of the Rapid Action Force arrived at the protest site, a successful protest action had been held.

The protestors condemned the brazen attack on the democratic right to protest. The ostensible reason given by the authorities for cancelling the permission to protest, was that the protest would spread communal disharmony. This is turning truth completely on its head. It is the ruling class and its principal political parties who are responsible for dividing people on communal lines.

31 years since the demolition of Babri MasjidThe Communist Ghadar Party of India participates every year in mass protest actions on 6th December because it is important to expose the truth and build unity against communal politics.

The main banner at the protest bore the message: “Oppose the politics of communal division of people!” and “Advance the struggle for unity, peace and solidarity!”

The protestors raised militant slogans — “Punish those guilty of the demolition of Babri Masjid!”, “Unite against state-organised communal violence!”, “Unite against the politics of division of the people!” “Down with state terrorism!”, “Unite to defeat state terrorism!”, “Revoke UAPA!”, “Oppose the jailing and torture of those who raise their voices against injustice!”, etc.

31 years since the demolition of Babri MasjidThe protestors held both the then Congress government at the centre and the BJP government in UP as responsible for the demolition of the Masjid in 1992. They condemned the ruling class and its political parties for dividing people on communal lines and for organising communal violence and massacres. They affirmed their resolve to strengthen the unity of the people in order to defeat communal politics.

Apart from the Communist Ghadar Party of India, the other organisations which participated in the protest included Lok Raj Sangathan, Welfare Party of India, Social Democratic Party of India, Lok Paksh, Jamaat –e-Islami Hind, United Muslim Front, Women India Movement, Fraternity Movement of India, Purogami Mahila Sangathan, Kisan Mazdoor Mahasabha, Citizens for Democracy, Student Islamic Organisation of India, SEWA and Mazdoor Ekta Committee.

The people of India are determined to persist in the struggle to end state organised communal violence and every form of state terror. They will fight unitedly for this aim. This is the ringing message that the protest rally on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid conveyed.
