Sir,
Sir,
I am writing to express my happiness at reading the report entitled `Campaign to strengthen the political unity of the working class' in the June 16-30, 2013 issue of MEL, on the campaign organized by the Mazdoor Ekta Committee in Delhi. Indeed, it is important to initiate campaigns of this sort across the length and breadth of the country. The working man and woman understand the language of the minimum wage better than any one else. It is important to explain to them that under the capitalist system this minimum wage will always be lower than what the worker is entitled to, since the basis of the system is to steal from the worker the surplus produced by his or her labour. I am pleased to know that the presentation explains the methodology of determination of the minimum wage in the country today, and that it is super-exploitation that is the order of the day.
I am happy to know that a timely call has been given to work towards political unity to fight for `sukh and rakhsa', slogans that came into being when India moved into urbanization some millenia ago when the people in this part of the world freed themselves from the vagaries of nature. I look forward to reading about more such programmes.
Sincerely,
S. Nair,
Kochi
