The demands of the teachers include appointment of one mental health counselor for every 10 schools. They wanted filling of all vacant ministerial staff positions in the Education Department as part of the initiative towards achieving quality education. An estimated 96,000 teaching posts are vacant throughout the State. The teachers are demanding that these posts be filled. They are also demanding that the benefits of the Sixth pay Commission be available to all categories of school teachers. Other demands include implementation of old age pension scheme, and the appointment of teachers in the ratio of one teacher for every thirty students.
