Thousands march to Israeli Embassy in London demanding embargo on UK arms supplies to Israel

Thousands of people gathered at London’s Piccadilly Circus on September 7, and marched to the Israeli Embassy in London, in a massive show of protest against Israel’s bombardment of Gaza and the British government’s continued support for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

London_march“We demand our government completely stop arming Israel and push for a cease-fire now,” said the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, which had organised the protest action.

For the first time since October last year, a protest march was permitted by the London Metropolitan Police to proceed to the Israeli Embassy. Even up to September 6, a day before the scheduled protest march, the police continued its efforts to prevent the protesters from gathering for the protest march and rally, causing difficulties for the organisers.

Marching to the embassy, the protesters raised slogans calling for an end to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. They demanded that the British government immediately and completely stop its arms supplies to Israel. They held up placards in their hands declaring “Stop Arming Israel!”, “Ceasefire Now!”, “Genocide is NOT Self-Defence!”, etc.

The massive protest march in London on September 7 is a part of the protest actions in thousands of cities across the world, demanding an immediate end to Israel’s genocidal war against the Palestinian people.

Israel’s genocidal war against the Palestinian people, in Gaza and now even in the West Bank, is going to complete one year. It is being carried out with massive support of arms and money from the US imperialists and their Western imperialist allies. The war has already led to the killing of more than 40,000 people, and injuring hundreds of thousands of others, in addition to reducing the entire civic infrastructure in Gaza to rubble. Israel’s genocidal war is being carried out in cynical defiance of the masses of people around the world and of the UN and other international agencies. But the people’s opposition to the genocide is growing.
