People demonstrate outside the National Democratic Convention in the US
The Democratic National Convention (DNC) was held in Chicago from 19-22 August 2024. It was a celebratory occasion inside the convention hall to formally nominate Kamala Harris as the party’s candidate for president of the United States.
However, outside the convention hall, tens of thousands of American people raised their voices against the genocide in Gaza and attacks on the Palestinians in the West Bank, and the US state’s support for the genocide. It was a militant and courageous action by the protestors despite all kinds of attempts to block their protests with barricades and through heavy police presence.
The demonstrators called on all the working people of America to unite with them on the demand to immediately stop American support for the genocide. They declared, “The march on the DNC will be a march for Palestine. Our main demand will be: Stand with Palestine! End U.S. Aid to Israel.”
The protestors denounced the Biden-Harris government for fully backing Israel’s genocide in the name of “Israel’s security and right to self-defence.” Speakers at the protest rally exposed the attempts to talk of peace while abetting Israel’s genocide in Gaza as blatant lies.
Throughout the US, in the university campuses and on the streets, people are showing their opposition to the unabashed support of the US state for the genocide of tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children in Gaza and the West Bank, braving the police attacks and severe repression that is being unleashed on them.
Gaza war protesters clash with police at Australian arms fair
About 1,200 people attended a protest on 11 September 2024, picketing the Land Forces 2024 exposition being held in Melbourne, Australia. Pro-Palestine slogans were raised through loudspeakers while protestors waved Palestine flags. The protest was organised by the Students for Palestine and Disrupt Wars groups. Roads were closed and traffic blocked by the protest.
About 1,000 exhibiting organisations from 31 countries were expected to attend Australia’s largest defence expo.
The national co-convenor of Students for Palestine clarified that “We’re protesting to stand up for all those who have been killed by the type of weapons on display at the convention.”
