Thousands of workers, under the banner of the All India Safai Mazdoor Congress (AISMC) held a demonstration on July 2, outside the zonal office of the MCD.
The sanitation workers are responsible for cleaning storm water drains and sweeping the streets.
According to the workers, when a sanitation worker while carrying out his duty meets with an accident, the corporations do not even provide help. Daily wage workers, working on contract, are discriminated against. The union has also demanded that shelters be created for women workers who face difficulty regarding washrooms and lockers for their personal belongings.
