The struggle of the workers dismissed by Maruti Suzuki continues

Report by the correspondent of Mazdoor Ekta Committee

On 18 October 2024, the dismissed workers of Maruti Suzuki along with their family members organized a protest meeting in front of Manesar Tehsil in Haryana. Ignoring the pressure from the administration and police, this meeting was organized in support of the demand for the reinstatement of dismissed employees, proper wage agreement and permanent employment for temporary employees in Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti SuizukiWorkers-farmers from villages of Haryana and other districts, workers and trade unions from various industrial sectors, student-youth organizations, journalists and progressive people participated in the protest meeting.

While addressing the protest meeting, the speakers demanded in one voice that all the dismissed workers should be reinstated and all false cases should be withdrawn.

The struggle of the dismissed workers under the leadership of Maruti Suzuki Struggle Committee, is continuing in the form of a sit-in protest at IMT Manesar. The Haryana government is continuously putting pressure on the workers to end this sit-in. In this connection, on 15 October, the SDM of Manesar issued a notice ‘advising’ the workers to end their sit-in. The state police detained and tortured two workers for more than 7 hours, just for distributing pamphlets in support of the struggle of the dismissed workers. The government says that the workers are ‘disturbing industrial peace’ by distributing pamphlets at the factory gate. The Haryana government is repeatedly harassing the workers, who are protesting peacefully at the sit-in site, but against all odds.

The workers held the protest meeting on 18 October and conveyed a message to the government and the capitalists of the region that they will continue their struggle for justice and will continue to fight in support of workers by raising the issues and demands of temporary employees in the coming days.

Comrades from Krantikari Naujavan Sabha, Collective and Disha Student Organisation sang revolutionary songs and created a militant atmosphere during the meeting.
