On November 20, 2024, farmers staged a protest under the leadership of All India Kisan Sabha. They submitted a memorandum of their demands to the Nohar subdivision officer of Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan.
Representatives of farmers from different villages gathered at the Nohar grain market. A meeting was organized there. Following the meeting, all the farmers reached the subdivision office in a procession raising slogans regarding their demands and handed over a nine-point demand letter to the subdivision officer.
The demands of the farmers include – 332 cusecs of water be given in Nohar feeder. The canal should be reconstructed from Nehrana head to Fefana; Rajasthan police should patrol to stop water theft in Haryana; illegal Moghas running in Haryana should be banned; the canals should be reconstructed; electronic gauges should be installed. In the construction of the new canal, the CP 4 head should be built at the border of Rajasthan; Rajasthan’s share of water from CP 5 should be proportionate; the charge of SC should be kept in Nohar.
It is to be noted that the farmers of the Nohar feeder have been continuously struggling for the above demands since the last 20 years. This time the farmers are preparing to fight a do or die battle.
They warned the administration that on 11 December, farmers will hold a mahapanchayat at Bhadra turn. All the farmer representatives took an oath to mobilize thousands of farmers in the mahapanchayat.
While addressing the gathering, the farmer representatives and leaders expressed anger over the problems of Nohar feeder and expressed strong resentment against the anti-farmer attitude of the responsible officials and the government.
Speakers addressing the gathering, said that Nohar feeder, which has 332 cusecs of irrigation water and 45 cusecs of drinking water, is only running with 125 cusecs of water. This is sheer injustice to the farmers.
The speakers announced that now they will fight a do-or-die battle like Rawla Ghadsana and will not rest until their demands are met. For this, the farmers were united and a pledge to struggle was taken by all present, who endorsed their support by a show of hands. They planned to form committees in every village towards carrying on the struggle.
The speakers said that the elected representatives of the public have been misleading the farmers. The farmers here have to grapple with the problem of shortage of irrigation water. The public representatives do not come forward to solve this although they got elected promising to solve this problem.
Those who addressed the meeting included Mangej Chaudhary of Kisan Sabha, All India Vice President of Lok Raj Sangathan Comrade Hanuman Prasad Sharma, working class leader Comrade Riddhkaran Kaswan, Basant Beniwal, Panchayat Samiti members Rajesh Dudi, Bhala Ram Swami, Pawan Dehdoo, etc.
