Bhopal gas tragedy

Dear Editor,

Your article on the Bhopal gas tragedy of 9 December brings back horrific memories.

I was young then, and did not understand who was responsible for this ‘gross neglect’.

Indeed this was the worst industrial disaster and a heinous crime against the thousands of workers of our country. We should never forget such crimes

The disaster still continues to kill and disable the new generation while the perpetrators responsible for this continue to enjoy rich and comfortable lives. The Dow Company has taken over from Union Carbide Company and continues to do business as usual.

The people in Bhopal are still seeking justice and accountability from the ruling class.

The article clearly points out how the information was suppressed and laws were passed to aid the big capitalist to escape responsibility of compensating the victims.

Even now there are many other incidents taking place and no regulations are in place. The workers and families suffer the most and the rules are made in favor of rich owners.

People feel helpless,as the elected representativesdo not address their concerns. They listen only to the party high command and not to citizens. The party high command in turn answers only to the super rich who fund them in the elections.

The judiciary takes long years for giving judgements and many people do not even live to see justice done. The judiciary is not all that fair as experience shows. They can manipulate justice easily.

Its time that all working people of our country unite and fight against this unjust rule of the capitalist class.

Yours sincerely,

Rita
