Report of the correspondent of Mazdoor Ekta Committee
Farmers came together on 1 February 2025 under the banner of All India Kisan Sabha, at Kisan Chowk in Hisar district of Haryana. They had gathered to protest against the budget presented by the Finance Minister of the Central Government, Nirmala Sitharaman.
Addressing the demonstration, the farmer leaders strongly condemned the budget. They pointed out that no step has been taken in the interest of farmers and workers in the budget. Farmers have not been given any kind of discount or tax exemption on fertilizers, seeds, sprays, agricultural tools. Apart from this, nothing has been said about curbing supply of fake seeds and pesticides. There is no arrangement to provide seeds, fertilizers and pesticides by the government. The government is trying to hand over all the above things to private hands.
He said that farmers are burdened with debt. Three farmers are committing suicide every hour in the country. The government has waived off Rs 16 lakh crore of about 500 industrialists, while not even a single rupee of farmers’ debt has been waived off.
