Statement of the Central Committee of the Communist Ghadar Party of India, 9 May 2025
The government of India announced on 7 May that it had launched missile attacks on nine places in Pakistan, in a military operation termed “Operation Sindoor”. Since then, the armed forces of the two countries have launched missile and drone attacks all across the border. Dozens of people have been killed in heavy cross border firing between the armed forces of India and Pakistan across the Line of Control (LOC) in Kashmir. Schools and colleges in border regions of both countries have been shut down. Many airports in India and Pakistan have been shut down for civilian flights. A week ago, the government of India announced that it was keeping the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance. It has stopped the flow of water into Pakistan through the Jhelum and Chenab rivers.
A very dangerous situation is developing in our region. The possibility of the present situation developing rapidly into an open full-fledged war between two heavily armed countries is very real. If this happens, it is the people of India and Pakistan who will suffer.
The brutal massacre in Pahalgam, in which 26 innocent people lost their lives, has shocked the people in India, Pakistan and all over the world. It was a crime against humanity. It was organised with the aim of inflaming passions in India on the basis of religion, and of whipping up war hysteria against Pakistan.
The government of India claims that “Operation Sindoor” was to avenge the Pahalgam massacre. However, it has not provided any evidence that those who carried out that massacre were organised by the Pakistani state. It has simply been asserting day in and day out that Pakistan is behind the attack, inspite of the latter’s denial.
Terrorism is a weapon that has been routinely used by imperialist and capitalist states to advance the interests of their ruling classes. The intelligence agencies of such states train, indoctrinate and set in motion various armed groups to carry out terrorist attacks. They organise such attacks within their own country as a false flag operation —that is, they hide their own hand and blame some other country. Terrorism serves the ruling classes of such countries to spread jingoist war propaganda and rally the masses of innocent people behind themselves in the name of defending national security, for their own self serving aims. The people of our country must keep this in mind, when we analyse the developments since the Pahalgam attack.
We must keep in mind that US imperialism is the fountainhead of terrorism on the world scale. It has organised, financed and armed various terrorist groups in many parts of the world. The aim has been to advance the US imperialists’ strategic interests, provide a justification for armed aggression and occupation of independent countries, as well as to suppress all dissenting voices within the US in the name of national security.
For the past three decades, the Anglo-American imperialists have been spewing hate propaganda against the people of the Muslim faith, painting them as fanatics and terrorists, in order to justify attacking Muslims all over the world. The Indian ruling class has actively toed this line.
It cannot be forgotten that the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947, engineered by the British imperialists, led to the brutal division of the peoples of Punjab, Kashmir, and Bengal on a communal basis. It resulted in rivers of blood for the sake of ensuring continued imperialist domination over the subcontinent.
For the past 77 years, the Anglo-American imperialists have tried their utmost to ensure that India and Pakistan remain perpetually at loggerheads with each other, in order to ensure their domination over the Indian subcontinent.
War between India and Pakistan serves the interests of the Anglo-American imperialists, who rely on such conflicts to weaken the warring states and profit from the sale of arms to both sides.
War between India and Pakistan is not in the interests of the workers, peasants and other working people of either country. It is the sons and daughters of the working people whose lives are sacrificed in such a war, and not those of the capitalist ruling classes.
The government of India is using the Pahalgam terrorist attack to divide and crush the struggles of the workers and peasants and other working people of our country. In the name of “national security”, all voices critical of the government and its policies are being suppressed. Poisonous hate propaganda has been unleashed against Kashmiris and against all Muslims. The agitations which kisan organisations are carrying on in different parts of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are being suppressed under the garb of national security.
The Communist Ghadar Party of India appeals to the people of India, and to all political forces who are fighting in defence of the rights of the people, to stand united and reject the chauvinist war hysteria of the Indian ruling class. Reject all attempts to divide us on communal lines. Oppose war between India and Pakistan!
