Workers of a Jindal cement factory in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh have been carrying out militant protests, braving police assaults and firing, since January 22, 2011. The immediate cause was the death of a worker due to unsafe working conditions in the factory on that day. The workers were demanding ex gratia for the family of their deceased comrade.

The immediate cause was the death of a worker due to unsafe working conditions in the factory on that day. The workers were demanding ex gratia for the family of their deceased comrade. They demonstrated at the gate of the plant at Bikalalagudur. The police attacked the workers brutally, and resorted to firing, on January 24, 2011. However the workers refused to relent, and their militant struggle forced the management to pay compensation to the family of the deceased worker.
