Andhra Pradesh Government employees win demands

The state government employees of Andhra Pradesh called off their indefinite agitation on January 23, 2011, following the government’s decision to accept most of their demands. Over ten lakh employees had participated in the indefinite strike launched on January 19, 2011.

The state government employees of Andhra Pradesh called off their indefinite agitation on January 23, 2011, following the government’s decision to accept most of their demands. Over ten lakh employees had participated in the indefinite strike launched on January 19, 2011. It was called a pen down, tool down, chalk down strike revealing the diverse sections of working people involved.

Under the agreement, the government will increase the HRA and gratuity from April 2011. It will provide medicare facilities under Arogyasri, fill up vacant posts in a phased manner, abolish the apprentice system for teachers, regularize panchayat employees, as well as implement speedier automatic promotions.
