The Employees' Union of Lady Hardinge Medical College and Associated Hospitals (Shrimati Sucheta Kriplani Hospital and Kalawati Saran Children Hospital) including nursing staff of both hospitals have launched a protest against the move for outsourcing of various technical and nursing staff in both the institutions of the Central Government.
In a meeting held on July 24, the employees criticised the move towards outsourcing, declaring it would affect the quality of medical services being provided. They pointed out that various posts of nursing staff have not been regularised.
“The Central Health Ministry has proposed a Comprehensive Redevelopment Plan for Lady Hardinge and Associated Hospitals to implement 27 per cent OBC reservation quota for admission to academic courses. As many as 804 posts of various categories were sanctioned on a regular basis but later the Government ordered that this work should be outsourced till the regular appointments to the posts are made. The protesting employees have decided to unanimously oppose the move,” said a member of the Joint Action Committee leading the agitation.
“Health service being a premier and essential service for the well-being of poor patients should not be outsourced. Since these posts are of a permanent nature and because health care services cannot be treated like any other department, it cannot be run by outsourced manpower. Rather hospitals require a regulated, accountable and rationalised system under the Government,” said a release issued by the Committee.
