Bank workers protest merger

Bank workers of the Bank of Rajasthan went on a three day strike to protest the merger of the Bank with the private sector ICICI Bank. The strike severely crippled banking services in Rajasthan from June 18, 2010.

According to bank workers, over 2,500 bank branches remained closed. Barring SBI, almost all branches of private sector and nationalised banks remained closed in the state in support of the demand of the workers of Bank of Rajasthan, the convenor of United Forum of BOR Unions announced. All 467 branches of BoR across the country also remained closed.

The bank employees have claimed that the Reserve Bank of India has pointed out to many irregularities in the functioning of the BoR. However no action has been taken against the bank's chief promoter, Praveen Kumar Tayal.
