Nearly 60,000 employees of Punjab’s power sector went on a two-day strike from December 8, after their talks with the state’s power corporations regarding pay and other benefits failed.

The Joint Forum of Power Sector Employees has pointed out that power corporations Powercom and TransCo had failed to implement earlier agreements with the employees. Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had agreed in April this year to the demands for absorption of the employees in the new power sector corporations after the PSEB (Punjab State Electricity Board) was disbanded. However, six months later, this promise still remains only on paper, despite the promised 10-day deadline for implementation.
