Industrial action by Workers in the Finnish forestry industry is to begin strike on October 1, 2010 demanding better conditions when their work contracts are renewed.
The strike will stop production at the factories of UPM-Kymmene Wood, Stora Enso Wood Products, Metäsliitto Osuuskunta, Versowood and Vapo Timer. Around 40 workplaces and over 4,000 workers are to participate in the initial stage. According to reports, the Finnish Forest Industries Federation and the Union of Salaried Employees are also likely to join the strike, if negotiations with the owners do not end in a settlement in favour of the workers.
