West Bengal needs change of system

The statement also clearly enunciates what the role of communists such as the CGPI is during the time of elections, which is to advance the cause of class struggle and the proletarian revolution.

The Editor,

Sir, I am writing to thank the CC of the CGPI for its timely and incisive statement entitled "Elections in West Bengal: Bengal needs change of system'' issued on April 17, 2011 at the time when the state is going to elections after nearly 35 years of Left Front rule.

The statement is of great value as it assesses and analyzes concretely what the content of the election is going to be, as regards the `change' it is going to bring in with the possible victory of the TMC-Congress combine. This is the kind of change that is wished for and nurtured by bourgeoisie, a change of one front of political parties that serve the interest of the bourgeoisie to another front that serves the same class interests, when the former is descredited. Is this the kind of change that the people of West Bengal need to address their vast problems of deprivation, hunger, unemployment and a bleak future? Or is there another kind of change that could actually solve these problems?

The statement clearly points out that the latter cannot occur without revolution and a fundamental change in the system away from the present model of representative democracy that has been handed down by the British colonialists. It is precisely this system that has been nurtured, defended and perfected by the CPI(M) and the Left Front, and it is they that have emerged as the strongest defenders of the system that safeguards the interests of the big bourgeoisie in the country. The path of betrayal of revolution has been the path of the CPI(M) and it finds itself now at the mercy of the winds that it can no longer control. On the other hand, the statement points out that the CPI (Maoists) are willing to support with the TMC and Congress due to its enmity with the CPI(M). Such activities have brought shame and disgrace to the name of communism.

The statement also clearly enunciates what the role of communists such as the CGPI is during the time of elections, which is to advance the cause of class struggle and the proletarian revolution. I hail the work of the CGPI in this regard. Let us work to change the system itself so that the people of India can then be the masters of their own destiny. Let us work for the Navnirman of India.

Down with the line of reconciliation with the bourgeoisie!

Down with the line of the CPI(M) and the Left Front!

Down with the TMC and Congress combine! Bring in the revolution! Bring in real change!

Sincerely,

A. Narayan, Bangalore
