Victory for Rajasthan NREGS workers’ demand

The NREGA workers of Rajasthan, who have been carrying on a dharna at jaipur’s city circle since October 2, 2010 have finally achieved victory. The State government agreed to their demands in writing. This includes linking the MGNREGS wage rate with the state’s minimum wage rate, which in turn will be linked to the consumer price index (CPI).

The NREGA workers of Rajasthan, who have been carrying on a dharna at jaipur’s city circle since October 2, 2010 have finally achieved victory. The State government agreed to their demands in writing. This includes linking the MGNREGS wage rate with the state’s minimum wage rate, which in turn will be linked to the consumer price index (CPI). The workers will now be able to get revised wages periodically in accordance with the inflation. Further, the MGNREGS workers would now have a registered union.

The government has assured the workers of action against officials guilty of paying Re 1 to MGNREGS workers at Tonk district’s Gudlia village. This was the incident that sparked off the current all Rajasthan agitation.
