Call of the Central Committee of Communist Ghadar Party of India for 8th March, 2010

On the occasion of 8th March, 2010, the beginning of the centenary year of International Women's Day, the Congress Party led UPA Government is tabling the Women’s Reservation Bill as its gift to the women of India. The aim of this Bill is to create reserved constituencies for women in every Lok Sabha and state assembly election, as the way to guarantee that at least one third of seats in these legislative bodies are occupied by women. This move has been welcomed by many parties including the BJP and the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

US President Barrack Obama is scheduled to visit India in the second week of November, 2010.

This visit comes at a time when the US imperialists are getting caught in the mire of the war they have unleashed in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s border provinces, as a result of the heroic resistance struggle of the peoples.

September 7 witnessed a country-wide all day strike by the working class, a fitting action in response to the pro-capitalist policies of the government. About 10 crore workers participated in this strike in response to the joint call of the Communist Ghadar Party of India and various political parties, trade unions, youth organizations and others.

Workers in France launched a week-long series of protests from Sep 4, 2010 to protest against the plans of the French government to carry out “reforms” of the pension system which would mean that the working people would have to work for a larger number of years in order to be able to claim pension benefits. These protests took place against the background of the plans of the French government to push the burden of the economic crisis on the backs of the working people while continuing to provide massive subsidies to the big corporations and tax breaks to the rich. 

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and bourgeois economists in general try to hide the connection between the rise in National Debt and the rise in economic burdens that are piling up on the backs of workers and peasants at this time. In fact, the rising national debt is one of the major factors, and a permanent one, leading to ever increasing burdens being imposed on the toiling people, in the form of higher taxes and prices of everything they need to buy in the market.

Thousands of elected Sarpanchs from different villages of Rajasthan marched onto the Rajasthan Assembly on September 1, 2010, in protest against the curtailment of their powers.

On August 24, 2010 the Minister of Environment and Forests, Shri Jairam Ramesh rejected the forest clearance for the Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) and Sterlite bauxite mining project on the Niyamgiri hills in Lanjigarh, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts of Orissa.

A mission of five women representatives of the ‘Khwairamband Nipu Keithel Vendor Welfare Association’ and ‘Manipur and Roadside Vendor Welfare Association’ visited New Delhi to take up the various important issues regarding irregularities in the  reconstruction of the Ima Keithel market and space allocation.

The Maharashtra Government has been forced to concede the demand of workers organisations that mill lands in prime locations of Central and South Mumbai cannot just be sold for real estate value. The workers have opposed closures.
