Capitalist reforms cannot be implemented with a human face

The discrediting of CPI(M) rule is an inevitable result of following the path of managing the bourgeois state for more than thirty years. It is the logical conclusion of expanding the space for capitalism to grow in West Bengal, at the expense of the rights and livelihood of workers and peasants.

Use of force against political rivals and to quell all opposition among the people, for the sake of promoting one’s own party’s interest, has nothing to do with communism. Communists work for advancing the interests of the working class. Their aim is to bring the working class and peasantry to power, not to establish and defend a party dictatorship by fire and sword. It is the bourgeoisie that resorts to violence and terror to safeguard and strengthen its rule.

The UPA Government is rushing headlong into a strategic alliance with one of the most dangerous powers hated by wide sections of people in our country – US imperialism.

The result of the ambitions of Indian bourgeoisie is that increasingly, the seas around our country are getting militarized, and the warships of powers which have no business to be here, are prowling around these seas. The warships of the US imperialists have been looking for a port of call, a port of refueling in this region for a long time.

The signing of the 123 agreement between India and the US reflects the ever growing alliance between the ruling circles of these two countries.

What this shows is that being an ally or “partner” of US imperialism offers no protection against the depradations of this rampaging superpower. At this time, various elements in the Indian ruling circles are crowing about the Indian state's increasing closeness to the US.

The passage of legislation in the US Congress on May 24 for supplementary unconditional funding by which the Bush administration sought to continue the war in Iraq had a significant impact on the anti-war movement which has been consistently protesting the war.

Recently, very clear evidence has come to light that the US imperialists are determined to extract a high price for their offer of a “strategic alliance” with the Indian state.

Loyal ally of US imperialism and Prime Minister of the UK, Tony Blair, is to step down after a ten–year long reign.

Unite to establish the rule of workers and peasants!
