Due to the capitalist system, the natural and social environment is being severely damaged. This capitalist system is responsible for the pollution. This system, whose main goal is profit for the capitalists, promotes unplanned and uncontrolled development. People are becoming victims of pollution and again doubly, in the name of mitigating pollution.

Dear Editor, Your article on the Bhopal gas tragedy of 9 December brings back horrific memories. I was young then, and did not understand who was responsible for this ‘gross neglect’. Indeed this was the worst industrial disaster and a heinous crime against the thousands of workers of our country.

Public meeting to mark 32 years after the demolition of Babri Masjid

The protest was jointly organised by Lok Raj Sangathan, Social Democratic Party of India, Welfare Party of India, Communist Ghadar Party of India, Jamaat-e-Islami-Hind, Lok Paksh, Citizens for Democracy, Students Islamic Organisation, Mazdoor Ekta Committee, Purogami Mahila Sangathan, The Sikh Forum, CPI (M-L) – New Proletarian, United Muslims Front, and others. Representatives of participating organisations put forward their views on the issue and on how to take the struggle forward, to put an end to the politics of state-organised communal violence and communal division of the people.

40th anniversary of the Bhopal gas leak disaster

What are the lessons that our people must draw from this calamity?  It is that the big capitalists both in India and abroad will stop at nothing to get maximum profits by exploiting our people.  It is that these capitalists use the state and all its agencies to facilitate their operations and to cover up for their crimes against the people.  None of the organs of the state can be relied upon to get justice for the people from the capitalists.

The people of India have nothing to gain and much to lose by supporting calls for the destruction of mosques which were allegedly built after demolishing temples hundreds of years ago. Such acts of revenge only serve to spread hatred and enmity between people of different religious faiths. They serve to destroy the unity of workers and peasants against the exploitative and oppressive rule of the bourgeoisie.
