Part-1: Necessity for a unified vanguard party of the Indian working class

The year 2000 has been a year of major confrontation between the working class and the bourgeoisie in India.

“Vatan ki azaadi ke liye sab kuch kurbaan kar de”. This was the overpowering drive that inspired the martyrs of the anti-colonial freedom struggle to sacrifice everything for the sacred cause of the liberation of the motherland. Very soon, it will be 53 years since the declaration of freedom from colonial rule.

The Government of India has appointed a Constitutional Review Committee headed by former Chief Justice and head of the government human rights commission, Venkatachelliah. Its terms include review of the functioning of the Constitution in the past 5 decades and suggesting changes, while keeping its "basic structure" intact.

Workers and working people, while fighting in defence of their rights and interests, must not restrict themselves to the bounds of a defensive struggle. The working class has the responsibility of putting forth a broad vision of an alternative to the course of liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation in front of the entire country.  

Institutionalising Armed Intervention Will Have Grave Consequences

Freedom loving people all over the world, as well as states which desire peace, must firmly oppose and condemn the dastardly plans of the imperialists to legitimise and institutionalise armed intervention, as also the US plans to renew the arms race.

Worker's Opposition Gaining Momentum 

Lakhs of insurance employees have been waging struggle over the past two months against the introduction of the Insurance privatisation bill in parliament. On December 1, a country-wide strike was observed. Earlier on November 29, massive rallies and dharnas were staged in Delhi as well as all the state capitals.

Fifteen years ago, on November 1-3, 1984, the rulers of India carried out the cold blooded slaughter of thousands of innocent people belonging to the Sikh faith, in Delhi, Kanpur and other places, following the assassination of Indira Gandhi.
