Protests in Maharashtra against Oil Refinery Project
The Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra is seething in anger against the proposed Barsu Salgaon refinery project. Entire villages are opposing the project on the grounds that it will directly and immediately impact the livelihood of thousands of local people in a brutal manner. The Indian state has been ignoring the complaints of the women wrestlers about their sexual harassment by the president of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is also a BJP MP from UP. The wrestlers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi since 23 April, demanding the removal of the WFI president from his position and his prosecution.

This call of the Great Ghadar of 1857 remains to be fulfilled
The people of India commemorate with great pride the 10th of May as the anniversary of the Great Ghadar against the rule of the British East India Company. On this day in 1857, soldiers of the army garrison in Meerut raised the banner of revolt against the British. They marched to Delhi and, with the backing of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the Mughal ruler, proclaimed their intention to drive out the British from India. They called on people from all communities, and across the length and breadth of the country, to join them. Hum hai iske malik, Hindustan hamara (India is ours, we are its masters) was their powerful rallying call.

Renowned wrestlers, including Olympic medallists and Commonwealth champions, have been protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar since April 23. They have accused Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, of sexual harassment of the women wrestlers.

Who is responsible for the violence in Manipur?

People protected each other. The anarchy and violence was state organised.
