The countrywide strike by doctors in Nigeria is having a widespread impact. The doctors began their strike on August 11. Initially resident doctors struck work to force the government to implement an earlier agreement on wages and working conditions. The resident doctors have now been joined by consultants.

Over 40,000 workers of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) have decided to step up their struggle for their long standing demands, including implementation of the 6th Pay Commission recommendations. The Officers’ union of the Corporation has extended moral support to the strike.

Domestic Workers in Chennai organised a protest action demanding weekly offs, notice before termination of service, paid holidays and medical benefits. They are demanding cards identifying them as domestic workers. They are also demanding that they be treated with dignity. Many of them are falsely accused of theft and harassed by police.

The Padgha area Lok Raj Samiti was constituted on 8th August in a meeting held in a hall near the Rice Mill of Padgha village (Thane district, Maharashtra) in the presence of hundreds of members. A 20-member Executive Council was elected, which included women and men, young and old.

Lok Raj Sangathan Delhi Regional Council organized several competitions and discussion on August 15 on the subject of 63 years of Independence and Rising Prices in the resettlement colony of Madanpur Khader Extension. According to the report, the top 20% of our country's population has more than 50% share of the national income in 2009-2010, as compared to the 36.7 % it had in 1993-1994.
