Thousands of peasants from UP and other places held a massive protest rally in New Delhi on August 26, against the forcible acquisition of their land for the Yamuna Expressway. They condemned the police firing on agitating peasants in Aligarh on August 15, in which four peasants were killed and nearly 20 injured.

Nearly 200 nurses were arrested in Ahmedabad on August 11, 2010, for agitating for their rights. The nurses of UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center at Civil Hospital were protesting the suspension order issued to three of their colleagues for forming a union.

The indefinite of over 33,000 non teaching staff of universities and colleges of Bihar has completed 49 days on August 18, 2010. The strike has badly affected teaching and examination schedules of all the colleges and universities in the state. Most colleges did not reopen after month-long summer vacation on July 1 and hence the admission of students to the three-year degree courses is yet to start there.

Viva Global is a company whose factory located in the Udyog Vihar region of Gurgaon manufactures clothes for well known brands such as Marks & Spencer. For the past few months, the management has been trying to intimidate the workers who have been organising to force the management to give them their rightful dues. Following brutal attacks on the workers and especially the union leaders on 25th August 2010, the workers have been demonstrating outside the factory gate. MEL interviewed the fighting workers who include a large number of women.
