The Editor, Apropos the article entitled 'Kashmir – an exposure of the real face of Indian democracy’, I am writing to express my thanks to the CGPI for its bold and categorical stand on the matter.  Written in the wake of the 'all-party’ delegation’s visit to Srinagar to supposedly appraise itself of the situation, the article captured in no uncertain terms that the mask of Indian democracy has been torn apart by the thousands of brave men, women and children who have come out into the streets to express their anger against continuous and increased repression under the hands of the state.

US President Barrack Obama is scheduled to visit India in the second week of November, 2010.

This visit comes at a time when the US imperialists are getting caught in the mire of the war they have unleashed in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s border provinces, as a result of the heroic resistance struggle of the peoples.

After more than three months of continuous mass protests in Kashmir, and the killing of more than a hundred people in daily shootings by the armed forces there, the UPA government finally came up with its long-awaited policy measure to deal with the explosive situation there – an ‘all-party’ delegation visit to Kashmir to observe the problem first-hand! As the Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Srinagar reacted incredulously, “Doesn’t the government of India already know the situation that is prevailing in Kashmir?!” This latest move only confirms the utter bankruptcy of the Indian state, its inability to even pretend that it has a solution to the problem.

Even as the government boasts of hosting the "best Commonwealth Games ever", it is an open secret that the construction workers at the Commonwealth Games sites, whose number is estimated to be over a lakh, have been victims of the most brutal and inhuman exploitation.

On September 23, the Supreme Court stayed the delivery of the Ayodhya judgment by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court, which was scheduled for September 24. The Court cited “disagreement between the two judges” as the reason for the stay, as one of the judges was reported to be in favour of conciliation.

Several thousand people participated in protests organised in many towns and cities of France against the fascist attacks and deportations of the Roma people.

Freight truckers across Greece decided to indefinitely extend their strike in the middle of September 2010 against government plans to privatise the sector. The strike, which began on 13th September 2010, would continue indefinitely, it was announced.

Industrial action by Workers in the Finnish forestry industry is to begin strike on October 1, 2010 demanding better conditions when their work contracts are renewed.

More than 30,000 Romanian public sector workers are to go on strike at the end of September 2010. The spokesman of the National Union of Public Workers said that workers from hundreds of state institutions will participate.
