9 May 2025 marked the 80th anniversary of the surrender of Nazi Germany, bringing to end the Second World War in Europe.
This is a day that progressive and peace loving people of the whole world commemorate to honor the unimaginable sacrifices made by millions of people from all countries to liberate the world from the scourge of Nazi fascism. It is a day to honor and salute the heroic deeds of the people of the socialist Soviet Union led by the Bolshevik Party with Comrade Stalin at its head, who played the leading role in the defeat of Nazi Germany. It is a day to honour and salute the deeds of the countless patriots of the occupied countries of Europe and Asia who, led by communists, displayed death defying courage in the struggle to liberate their countries from the armies of the occupation forces.

The Communist Ghadar Party of India appeals to the people of India, and to all political forces who are fighting in defence of the rights of the people, to stand united and reject the chauvinist war hysteria of the Indian ruling class. Reject all attempts to divide us on communal lines. Oppose war between India and Pakistan!
The kisans had planned a march to the Shambhu border on 6 May, to highlight their demands. The Punjab government and its police forces employed the most criminal methods to prevent the kisan march.
Many kisan leaders were placed under house arrest, while several other kisan activists were detained at police stations, a day before the planned march. As kisans began gathering in Moga and Jagraon in preparation for the march, they were stopped. Police erected barricades, deployed sand-laden trucks and tippers to block the kisan march to Shambhu.
Undaunted, the kisans are determined to continue the struggle for their demands.
Fifty years ago, on 30 April, 1975, the people of Vietnam led by their communist party headed by Ho Chi Minh liberated their country. After a heroic, 20 year long war of liberation, the indomitable Vietnamese people inflicted a resounding defeat on US imperialism and its puppet regime based in Saigon (now known as Ho Chi Minh City). At the end, as the tanks and forces of the Vietnamese liberation fighters rolled into Saigon, all the bombs, weapons, planes and deadly arsenal in the hands of the world’s mightiest imperialist power were no use. No one can forget the images of the US ambassador and other American functionaries and their hangers-on fleeing the city and clambering onto helicopters in a desperate bid to escape.

Through this strike action, we workers want to tell the Central and state governments that we refuse to accept the onslaught they are carrying out on our rights, in the name of improving the “ease of doing business”. We refuse to accept that whatever is best for the capitalists is best for the country. No, what is best for the capitalists is against the interests of workers and peasants. It is against the interests of the whole of Indian society.

Report of correspondent of Mazdoor Ekta Committee
Hundreds of workers, from different sectors, participated in the joint May Day march from Ramlila Maidan to Town Hall at Chandni Chowk, under the leadership of the Joint Forum of Trade Unions of Delhi. A public meeting was held at the Town Hall. There was a large and militant participation of women workers, in particular.
