Heads of state or government of the ten ASEAN member countries -- Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Brunei – were the Chief guests at the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2018.
Twenty five years, ago, the Indian state announced its “Look East” policy and began to actively strengthen economic and political relationships with the countries of South East Asia. This was immediately following the end of the Cold War and the end of the bipolar division of the world.
During these twenty five years, the ten member ASEAN has emerged as an important multilateral trade grouping. China has emerged as the biggest trading partner of ASEAN, followed by Japan, the US and South Korea.
US President Trump’s trip to 5 countries in Asia in the second week of November – the longest Asia trip by a US President in 25 years -- was aimed primarily at boosting arms sales by the US Military-Industrial Complex and further strengthening US hegemony in Asia. It took place in the backdrop of heightened aggressive US military presence in South Korea, provocations and daily threats directed against the DPRK (North Korea) as well as the slanders by the US administration and the international media under its control against the DPRK for defending its sovereignty.

India’s growing engagement in the US imperialist strategy in the region
India, Japan and the US began the 21st edition of their 5-day joint trilateral maritime Malabar naval exercises in the Bay of Bengal, on July 10. As many as 95 aircraft, 16 ships and two submarines, including the world’s largest aircraft carrier, the American USS Nimitz, are reported to have participated in these exercises, which included on-shore as well as at-sea military exercises.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three day visit to Israel in July 2017 marks the strengthening of a dangerous anti-people alliance between India and Israel. ... The results of the mid-term elections held in Britain in June reveal that the country is caught in the throes of acute political crisis. In 2015, the bourgeoisie succeeded in manufacturing victory for the Conservative Party and made David Cameron the Prime Minister. Faced with sharp contradictions within its ranks, the British bourgeoisie organized a referendum on BREXIT (Britain’s exit from the EU) in 2016. US President Donald Trump addressed leaders of 50 Islamic states on May 21 in Saudi Arabia, during his first foreign trip as President. As the leader of US imperialism, the main source of terrorism in the world today, Trump’s speech on “countering terrorism” was full of hypocrisy, lies and false assertions. Its aim was to attempt to cover up the reality that US imperialism remains the fountainhead of terrorism and of organizing, funding, training and unleashing terrorists groups in various parts of the world, in order to advance its geo-political strategy for world domination.
China formally showcased its Belt and Road Initiative at a Summit meeting held on May 14-15 in Beijing.
Presidents and Prime Ministers from 28 countries including Russian President Vladimir Putin, and ministers from another 30 countries including from Britain and Germany attended the summit. Ambassadors from at least 40 other countries also participated.
In the middle of March, the US and South Korean armed forces conducted one of the biggest ever military exercises in the Korean peninsula, targeted at North Korea. Seventeen thousand US troops joined over three lakh South Korean troops in war games conducted over air, sea and land. They practiced attacking North Korea with nuclear weapons. US Special Forces (SEALS) practiced for a mission to assassinate the North Korean political and military leadership and carry out regime change there.
During his visit to India in early December, US secretary of defence, Ashton Carter issued a joint statement with his counterpart Manohar Parrrikar, designating India as a “major defence partner” of the US. According to the statement, “The designation as a 'Major Defence Partner' is a status unique to India and institutionalises the progress made to facilitate trade and technology sharing with India to a level at par with that of the United States' closest allies and partners, and ensures enduring cooperation into the future."
Allying with the world’s biggest terrorist in the name of “jointly fighting terror”
In early December some sections of the media carried a report that a seven-member team of the FBI (US Federal Bureau of investigation) was in Kolkata to question a person, who had been arrested on charges of being an “Islamic State terror group operative”. It was alleged that the so-called operative had plans to execute “attacks harmful for US interests”.
Majority of nations and peoples want peace, not war
For the first time in its 71 year history, the United Nations General Assembly committee voted on October 28, to launch negotiations on a new treaty banning nuclear weapons.
The resolution was presented by Austria, Ireland, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa and Brazil. The US and other major nuclear power lobbied for several weeks before this, to pressurize other countries to oppose the treaty banning nuclear weapons. Despite their efforts, the resolution was adopted by a vote of 123 to 38, with 16 abstentions.

US imperialism remains the fountainhead of fascism and war
The people of the world and in particular, the people of Japan will never forgive the US imperialists for one of the gravest crimes they committed against humanity – the dropping of atom bombs over two towns in Japan, Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 and Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. The bomb the U.S. dropped on Hiroshima was made of uranium and killed about 140,000 people in the initial blast and, in total more than 237,000.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) organised a summit on July 8 and 9, 2016 in Warsaw, Poland. The US imperialists used the Summit to vigorously push ahead with militarisation of Eastern Europe and stepped up preparations targeting Russia. The summit also decided to escalate NATO led military interventions targeting Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and the countries and peoples of Africa.

Thousands of anti war protestors surrounded the Japanese Parliament in the capital Tokyo in March 29, 2016. They were expressing the opposition of the Japanese people to the new security laws passed by the Abe government that allows the Japanese military to engage in conflicts abroad.
More than 10 lakh workers and students of France participated in militant demonstrations on March 31, 2016, against the pro capitalist, anti worker reforms to the Labour Code proposed by the government of Francois Hollande. For over two months now, the border crossing of India with Nepal at Raxaul and Birgunj – the city just across the border in Nepal – has been blocked. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the US in the last week of September. The entire visit was covered by the electronic and print media of our country in such a manner as to make out that the whole of America was on its feet, cheering and saluting the arrival of India’s Prime Minister.
As we go to the press, the US has been carrying out massive war exercises involving lakhs of US and South Korean troops in the Korean peninsula. These war exercises are cynically called Ulchi Freedom Guardian (UFG).
The BRICS grouping of countries, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, held its seventh summit meeting at Ufa in Russia at the beginning of July. The BRICS countries represent 40% of the world’s population and put together they produce over 30 % of the global economic output.
Prime Minister Narender Modi visited the Central Asian states of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan from July 6 to 13. In between, he also attended the BRICS summit meeting at Ufa in Russia.
PM Modi’s 9 day tour of China, Mongolia and South Korea in May, which followed a visit last year to Japan, confirmed that East Asia is a particular focus of the foreign policy of the current NDA government.

The Obama administration began the aerial bombing of Syria on September 22, allegedly in order to destroy the ISIS (Islamic state of Iraq and Syria). In the referendum held on September 18 for the people of Scotland to decide whether they wanted independence from the United Kingdom, a full 45% of those who voted showed that they preferred to separate.
Leaders of NATO member states held their summit meeting in Britain in the town of Newport in Wales, on September 4-5, 2014. Over 80 leaders, both those of the countries who are part of this war mongering military alliance, and their "alliance partners" participated in this Summit.

A devastating civil war is raging within Ukraine, with the Ukraine army launching a bloody offensive against the people in the eastern part of the country, with the full political and military backing of the US imperialists and NATO forces.
July 31st is the deadline for signing of the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) by all 160 member countries of the WTO. The TFA will bind member countries to lower all borders to international trade including tariffs, procedures, etc. The Indian government is opposed to signing the Agreement unless its concerns over WTO Rules regarding agricultural subsidies are addressed.

Hundreds of people gathered outside the Israeli embassy in New Delhi om 13th July to protest the barbaric genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza strip. This demonstration was organised under the banner of “Indian people’s solidarity with Gaza”. Hundreds of students, youth, intellectuals, artists and ordinary citizens participated in the demonstration.
Mass protests have been raging across Turkey since May 14, when a catastrophic mine disaster at a mine owned and operated by the Soma Kumur company took place in the city of Soma, reported to be the most deadly industrial accident in the history of Turkey.

Carrying forward the legacy of a two century old independence struggle

The Singapore government introduced a new bill in parliament on January 20, giving police special powers to “maintain public order” in Little India, a hub of Indian-owned businesses, eateries and pubs, where migrant workers from India and other South Asian countries get together in their rest time.
More than 15,000 workers, i.e. about 80% of the work force of the state owned Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) went on strike on December 9, protesting against steps that are being widely perceived as preliminary to privatizing the rail service – a plan by the management to sell off to private hands the most profitable slice of its business.

On 30th October 2013, Israeli warplanes bombed targets in the port city of Latakia in Syria. This is reported to be the fourth attack by Israeli warplanes on Syria in 2013, the other attacks having reportedly occurred in January, May and July this year.

Aimed at justifying violation of human rights and sovereignty
The US closed 19 of its diplomatic missions in Arab countries and Africa from August 4 onwards citing “terrorist threats”. The US imperialists claimed that they had intercepted “terrorist chatter” on the internet, pointing to an imminent attack on its diplomatic missions in the region.

The new Chinese Premier’s visit to India from 19 to 22 May 2013 was followed almost immediately by the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Japan from 27 to 30 May 2013. These two visits coming so soon one after the other, have led to a lot of comment around the world on the relations between these three most powerful Asian states.

In the third week of May massive protests by immigrant youth were reported in Stockholm, Sweden. The protests were triggered by the death of a 69 year old person due to police firing in Husby, a locality with predominantly immigrant population from Turkey, Iraq, Syria, Somalia and other countries of West Asia and Africa.
Beginning May 2, 2013, Israeli warplanes have bombed various locations in Syria repeatedly. Powerful blasts shook the capital Damascus, followed by massive fires. Damascus airport as well as other strategic locations in the capital was the direct target of these bombings.
On May 9, 2013, the Peshawar High Court ruled that US drone strikes on Pakistan that had resulted in deaths of thousands of people were illegal. It directed the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan to move a resolution in the UN against such attacks. "If the US vetoes the resolution, then the country should think about breaking diplomatic ties with the US," the judgment said.
Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister of Britain from 1979 to 1990, died on April 8, 2013. Condemn the continued violation of Syria’s sovereignty by the US imperialists
Completely disregarding the principle of respecting the independence and sovereignty of countries and people, on 12th December 2012, the USA has recognized the “national coalition of Syrian revolutionary forces” (the opposition) as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had a summit meeting with Prime Minister Mamohan Singh on December 24, 2012. This was the 13th Consecutive Annual Summit between the leaders of the two countries. During the Cold War period, India and the Soviet Union had a strategic relationship with each other.

Thousands of protesters poured into the streets of Turkey’s biggest city Istanbul on October 3, 2012 to oppose the prospects of their country getting involved in a war with neighbouring Syria. Strong opposition to the bid to isolate and punish Iran
The 16th Summit meeting of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) concluded peacefully in Teheran earlier in September 2012. Over a hundred member countries participated, many of them represented by their heads of government. Officials of Russia, China and some other countries were present as observers.

Huge protests have been taking place in Pakistan, after NATO supply lines to Afghanistan through Pakistan were reopened last week. These supply lines had been closed by the government of Pakistan after a US missile strike on the Chalala air base in Pakistan last November killed 24 Pakistani military personnel.
Condemn the use of weapons of mass terror by US imperialism and its allies!
Opposition is growing to the policy of US imperialism to increasingly use unmanned aircraft (called drones) to unleash death and destruction on various targets in other countries. Originally used as spy planes, drones have been modified to carry missiles and launch attacks. Over the coming decade, the US is expected to double its expenditure on drones to more than $11 billion. The command of these deadly machines lies with the American spy agency the CIA, and is located thousands of kilometres away in secured locations back in the US or in other bases.
On June 22, NATO member country Turkey sent one of its planes without warning into the airspace of Syria, a country which for many months now has been battling a fierce imperialist offensive on many fronts.

Agni 5 has been declared to be an Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). It was launched from the Andhra Coast and landed successfully in the Southern Indian Ocean over 5000 km away. On November 22, the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal based in Malaysia indicted former US President George Bush and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair for war crimes, in connection with the 2003 invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq.

Anti-Imperialist forces resolve to throw imperialists out of Asia
We denounce the decision of the Manmohan Singh government to send the Indian Army to Afghanistan to "train" the puppet Afghan army, set up by the US imperialists, to attack the Afghan people's anti-imperialist national liberation struggle. We consider this as an excuse to intervene in Afghanistan against our own brothers and sisters.

“We will feel safer when US forces leave” was the unanimous sentiment expressed by people of Afghanistan, who gathered to protest against the invasion of their country by the US, 10 years ago on October 7, 2011. The protestors clearly wanted the immediate withdrawal of US and other foreign troops from their country.

Ten years of unjust wars and violation of sovereignty under concocted pretexts
Ten years after that horrific event, it is now clear that the terrorist attack of 9/11 was the launching pad for a fascist military campaign to assert and impose the hegemony of US imperialism on the global scale. It was either a remarkable piece of good fortune for US imperialism, or a clandestine diabolical plot masterminded by the US imperialists themselves. US imperialism has clearly been the principal political beneficiary.
The Revolutionary Communist Party of Britain (Marxist-Leninist) has pointed out that “Youth are being denied a future. They are being blocked from having any say in shaping the future. The state itself promotes violence and anarchy; and then blames the youth”.
The truth is that, with cold-blooded cynicism, the US imperialists and their allies are using the widespread conditions of domestic unrest that have affected a large number of countries and states across the whole of northern Africa and parts of western Asia this year, to strike mortal blows against those states and governments that have challenged their interests in the region as well as those of their henchmen, the Israeli Zionists. Libya, Syria and Iran have all, at different times and to different degrees, opposed the imperialist designs in the region. They have actively supported the Palestinian and other peoples fighting against imperialism and zionism.
Ten years ago, on October 7, 2001, the US imperialists and their allies invaded Afghanistan, and they remain there to this day. In the name of waging “war against terrorism”, they have occupied the country, set up their chosen regime, bombed the villages and mountains, and killed and maimed tens of thousands of its people.
In a move with important international ramifications, the Iranian Majlis (Parliament) has formally charged 26 US officials with war crimes and crimes against humanity, and they will face prosecution in Iranian courts in absentia. Following their trial in Iranian courts, the dossier on their crimes will be forwarded to the International Criminal Court in the Hague.

Greece has been under severe economic crisis for the past several years. The Greek government which did not have any foreign debt before it joined the EU in 2000, is now mired in debt. By 2009, the budget deficit stood at 15.7%, which is four times what is allowed by the EU and the external debt was 127% of the GDP. The primary reason for this situation was the easy credit offered to the Greek government by the "troika" of lending institutions, i.e., the IMF, European Central Bank and the European Commission.
Egypt continues to boil. The fall of the Mubarak regime, and the establishment of an interim government, has not satisfied the working masses. The working masses can see that the military, the backbone of the Mubarak regime, continues to rule and the interim government continues its anti working class, pro US, pro Israeli course. They are demanding a fundamental change in course.
On May 15, the Israeli Armed Forces opened fire on hundreds of protestors who had gathered at a check point on the border of Gaza with Israel, to commemorate Naqba (day of catastrophe), the founding of the Israeli Zionist state in 1948. At least 15 people were killed in the firing while many more were wounded.
Tens of thousands of people all over Spain have been participating in sit – in protests in the second half of May 2011, occupying the Puerta del Sol in Madrid and many other public buildings and places.
The situation in Libya is grave. The imperialists are preparing to introduce ground troops to occupy Libya or partition the country, as the present level of intervention in the form of weapons, special forces, assassination squads and tactical leadership has proven insufficient.
Why are the imperialists so desperate to get rid of Gaddafi and install a pliant regime? This must be seen in the context of the inter imperialist conflicts over the redivision of Africa, rich in natural resources. Libya is one of the few countries in Africa (others are Sudan, Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, Eritrea) which are not part of AFRICOM, the newest of Pentagon commands for the African and Mediterranean Basin region.
On 24 March, the Communist Ghadar Party of India, the Socialist Unity Center of India (Communist), CPIML, and Peoples Front (Delhi) organised a joint demonstration at parliament to condemn the savage imperialist aggression on Libya by the forces of US, Britain, France and other NATO countries.
Starting on 19th March, warplanes of the United States, France, Britain and a few other imperialist countries have rained Tomahawk missiles and other deadly weapons on selected targets in Libya, including its capital city Tripoli.
Saturday 26th March was a historic and proud day for all working people of Britain. Almost a million people marched through the streets of London protesting against the cuts to welfare and public services, corporate bail-outs, and wars of aggression in the Middle East and South Asia. Central London was brought to a standstill by students, pensioners, trade unionists, anti-war protesters along with masses of working people marching in solidarity.
In the wake of people’s uprisings in North Africa and West Asia, the Anglo-American imperialists are using the civil war in Libya as a pretext to intervene militarily. Towards this end, they have launched a campaign full of hypocrisy and exaggeration about the situation in Libya, to justify the ongoing military intervention.
As we go to the press, masses of people in the Arab world stretching from Morroco in North Africa, through Algeria, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, and Bahrain have come out on the streets against their anti popular regimes. The people taking part in these uprisings have drawn inspiration from the mass revolts in Tunisia and Egypt which had resulted in the toppling of the unpopular rule of Ben Ali and Hosni Mubarak.
On Saturday 5 February, 2011, the racist and fascist organisation, EDL (English Defence League) organised a provocative march targeting people of Moslem faith in Luton, a town of a large Moslem community. Unite against Fascism (UAF) organised opposition against this provocative march and organized a counter protest at the same time.
As we go to the press, the North African country of Tunisia is in the midst of a powerful popular revolt of the working masses. The erstwhile President, who has ruled the country since 1987, has fled to Saudi Arabia.
Food prices have hit record highs globally. They have shot up 25% in the past one year alone. The resulting unbearable squeeze on living standards have led to mass protests on the streets, including widespread clashes with armed troops in many cases. The rising food prices have been a major factor behind the revolt in Tunisia, as well as the mass protests in Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Mozambique and Yemen in recent weeks.
Britain exposed the hypocrisy of capitalist democracies before its own people last week as its government rode roughshod over opposition from the country’s students and teachers, ramming through legislation for an unprecedented hike in university fees.
US President Obama recently visited India to strengthen the alliance between the US imperialists and the Indian ruling class. This alliance is fraught with peril for the workers and people of India as well as for the peace and security of South Asia and the world. It must be opposed by all forces interested in peace and the wellbeing of the peoples.
US President Barrack Obama is scheduled to visit India in the second week of November, 2010.
This visit comes at a time when the US imperialists are getting caught in the mire of the war they have unleashed in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s border provinces, as a result of the heroic resistance struggle of the peoples.
Freight truckers across Greece decided to indefinitely extend their strike in the middle of September 2010 against government plans to privatise the sector. The strike, which began on 13th September 2010, would continue indefinitely, it was announced.
More than 30,000 Romanian public sector workers are to go on strike at the end of September 2010. The spokesman of the National Union of Public Workers said that workers from hundreds of state institutions will participate.
Workers in France launched a week-long series of protests from Sep 4, 2010 to protest against the plans of the French government to carry out “reforms” of the pension system which would mean that the working people would have to work for a larger number of years in order to be able to claim pension benefits. These protests took place against the background of the plans of the French government to push the burden of the economic crisis on the backs of the working people while continuing to provide massive subsidies to the big corporations and tax breaks to the rich.
Hundreds of foreign student nurses, most of them Indians, face the threat of deportation from Australia. This follows the government's decision to raise the English language standard requirement for passing for foreign students. This arbitrary decision was taken when most of these student nurses had just completed their courses. Many of them had got job offers in Australia.
The countrywide strike by doctors in Nigeria is having a widespread impact. The doctors began their strike on August 11. Initially resident doctors struck work to force the government to implement an earlier agreement on wages and working conditions. The resident doctors have now been joined by consultants.
Auto workers began strike action in the second week of August 2010 demanding 15 percent pay rise, six months maternity leave and a housing allowance. Around 30,000 members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) working for large car manufacturers such as General Motors, Ford and BMW participated in the action.
Workers at the Fos and Lavera oil terminals at the port of Marseilles, France, held a 24-hour strike on August 20, 2010 Loading, discharging and berthing / unberthing were all severely affected during the industrial action.
Several demonstration and actions have been taking place in Ireland to oppose cuts in health services. One of the latest in a series of demonstrations to oppose the downgrading of hospital services took place in Portiuncula hospital, Ballinasloe, County Galway, on August 16, 2010.
Transport workers across the world are holding a day of action to protest the sacking of 157 transport workers in Turkey by the multinational transport company UPS, which transports cargo by land, sea and air . The workers were dismissed following attempts to unionise. The company has been using threats as well as violence against the workers.

On June 4, 2010 several peoples' organizations in Delhi organized a massive protest outside the Israeli embassy against the attack of the Israeli state on the aid ship which was trying to reach the 15 lakh people trapped by the three year long occupation of the Gaza strip. Workers, youth, women, intelligentsia, reporters, human rights activists as well as political and social activists participated in the protest in large numbers.
As part of its drive to grow and amass ever greater profits, the Indian big bourgeoisie is expanding its reach abroad as well as within the country. Thousands of US soldiers armed to the teeth with the deadliest weaponry available today began a massive ‘surge’ offensive in Afghanistan in the second week of February 2010 to wipe out centers of Afghan resistance to the occupation forces. According to the US and NATO occupation forces, the aim is to “liberate” various regions from “Taliban Control”. On Monday December 15, the world witnessed an unforgettable act in Baghdad, when a journalist attending a press conference for visiting US President Bush threw his shoes at the American President. This action of Muntader al-Zaidi, a 29-year-old journalist with the Al Baghdadia, a Cairo-based satellite television network, symbolised the anger, the hatred and repulsion of millions of peoples across the Arab world against the US State for its criminal occupation of Iraq and genocide of its people.
The result of the ambitions of Indian bourgeoisie is that increasingly, the seas around our country are getting militarized, and the warships of powers which have no business to be here, are prowling around these seas. The warships of the US imperialists have been looking for a port of call, a port of refueling in this region for a long time.

The passage of legislation in the US Congress on May 24 for supplementary unconditional funding by which the Bush administration sought to continue the war in Iraq had a significant impact on the anti-war movement which has been consistently protesting the war.
According to news reports, the report of the weapons inspectors team on Iraq has been seized by the US. The US forcibly took over the arms report on Iraq from the UN Security Council President, and says that it will not be shown to the non-permanent non-nuclear members of the Security Council. (The Hindu, December 10, 2002).
The United States and its allies are using the pretext of their "war against terrorism" to try, gain and extend their foothold in the internal affairs of various Asian countries, and especially to extend control over military, intelligence and other important sectors.
Following reports of an alleged American intelligence information that Pakistan has been collaborating with North Korea on nuclear technology and armaments, the Indian government has demanded that the US should send international weapons inspectors into Pakistan.
The US imperialists have, for the last few weeks, been forcing the UN and all other countries to accept their demand for legitimizing aggression on Iraq. This most unwarranted aggression is part of the US imperialist drive to assert their authority over Asia and the world.

100 years ago Ghadar Party was formed by Indians in the US.It was historic milestone in our anti-colonial struggle.
The goal of this party was to organise a revolution to liberate our motherland from British servitude and establish a free and independent India with equal rights for all. It believed this to be the necessary condition for our people to hold their heads high anywhere in the world.
