Political Process

The polling of votes for the UP state assembly has been organised to take place in seven phases between 8th February and 3rd March. UP is a huge state with a 20-crore population. It has played a significant role in our country’s revolutionary politics.

A rally was taken out on 10th February, from Fatehbad city’s Lal Batti Chowk to the district headquarters, to protest against the forcible land acquisition for the proposed nuclear plant in Fatehbad district of Haryana. Hundreds of peasants from 15-20 villages in and around Gorakhpur village were present at this protest rally.

I consider myself very fortunate to have been a participant in the two day discussion on December 23-24, 2011, on the issue of the need for the working class to take political power in its hands and the proposed methods for achieving this.

62 years ago, on 26 January 1950, the present-day Republic of India was proclaimed. This marked the consolidation of the state power of the Indian bourgeoisie, which had taken over power from the British colonialists when they were forced to leave because of the mounting struggles of the people of India.

Perpetuation of fascistic army rule and denial of the right to self-determination are the source of the problem. There is widespread opposition to this illegitimate authority. The central state paints such opposition as a threat to the “unity and integrity” of India and uses it as an excuse for continuing its fascist rule.
