Steep fall in the Rupee — consequence of integration with the imperialist system

There has been a lot of noise in recent weeks about the external exchange value of the Rupee, which has fallen by nearly 10 percent in the last one month and nearly 20 percent since April 2013. The prices of imported goods have risen and this has had a cascading effect on prices across the spectrum of commodities.

Catering to monopoly capitalist interests in the name of a “responsible budget”

After consulting with the capitalist associations in India and abroad, Chidambaram also held day-long talks with the Congress Working Committee.  The aim of this exercise was to figure out what so-called concessions he ought to highlight in his budget speech, so as to fool the working people and not lose too many votes for the Congress Party in the coming state assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

BSNL workers plan strike action

It is a fact that in the whole period of privatization of Telecom services, the government deliberately ensured that the private players captured the major profitable sectors in the metros and other towns, while BSNL services were downgraded in precisely these areas. So we have the situation that in the countryside, in the hills, in the remote areas of our country, it is BSNL services that work, while in the big cities, the BSNL services are kept at inadequate levels to favour the private players. The government and management have ensured that private players can access BSNL networks without compensating it for the same.

Replacing one party or coalition by another in the existing capitalist democracy does not lead to any advance for the toiling masses.  It does not change the capitalist orientation of the economy.  It does not end the loot and plunder of our land and labour, nor the attacks on our rights. The only way the situation will change is if we who produce the wealth of India become her masters.  Then and only then can we reorient the economy to provide prosperity and protection for all.

March 23 marks the anniversary of the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his comrades Sukhdev and Rajguru, at the hands of the British colonial rulers. The call of our martyrs – that the struggle shall continue as long as a handful of exploiters, whether foreign or Indian, continue to exploit the toiling masses – rings in the hearts of our revolutionary youth even today.
