Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme : Ensuring profits of big monopoly corporates in the health and insurance sector

Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally launched the Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Scheme (AB-NHPS) from Jharkhand on 23rd September. Ayushman Bharat is being promoted as the world’s largest government funded health care program. The first phase of this program will be implemented from 2018-2022. The main initiatives under this scheme are the setting up of Health and Wellness Centers all over the country and the National Health Insurance Scheme, now named the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). The National Health Agency (NHA) will be the government body in charge of implementing the entire Ayushman Bharat Scheme.

Contract Labour: The future of youthful labour power of the country on contract

In February 2014 the ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India), an organisation of the capitalists, issues a press release, according to which between 2008-09 and 2012-13, the number of contract workers increased by 39% over the entire country. The use of contract labour has increased in all such sectors where work is of a permanent nature.

Condemn the petrol price hike!

Fight for the complete withdrawal of this hike!

On May 23, 2012 the UPA government launched a savage attack on the livelihood of our people  by increasing the petrol prices by over 7.50 Ps per liter. This is the third hike in petrol prices in the past year, and the steepest ever, the previous steepest being Rs 5/- a litre.

Twenty six years after the horrific Bhopal gas tragedy of December 2-3, 1984, a trial court in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has given its verdict. This verdict is a complete travesty of justice. People all over India and across the world have expressed horror and anger at the verdict.

Growing Indian presence in Africa

As part of its drive to grow and amass ever greater profits, the Indian big bourgeoisie is expanding its reach abroad as well as within the country. It is seeking new markets, sources of energy, minerals and raw materials, as well as profitable fields for investment of its capital.  One of the areas where it is expanding its presence most dramatically in recent years is the resource-rich continent of Africa.

Glimpse of bourgeoisie’s militarization plans in world context

While dealing with India’s militarization, it must be kept in mind that the US is the worlds most heavily armed power, on all counts, with its armies deployed all over the world. Not only is it the most heavily armed power in the conventional and nuclear sense, it spends 9-12 times as much on military expenditure each year (US $ 515 trillion) as compared with the next set of countries ( France, China, UK, Germany, Japan, Russia, Italy) and 16 times as much as India, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, the second set of countries on the list, on military outlay.
