Turkey – transport workers

Transport workers across the world are holding a day of action to protest the sacking of 157 transport workers in Turkey by the multinational transport company UPS, which transports cargo by land, sea and air . The workers were dismissed following attempts to unionise. The company has been using threats as well as violence against the workers.

Twenty six years after the horrific Bhopal gas tragedy of December 2-3, 1984, a trial court in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has given its verdict. This verdict is a complete travesty of justice. People all over India and across the world have expressed horror and anger at the verdict.

Solidarity with Air India workers

Sir, I am writing to express my support to the workers of Air India in their struggle against the dictatorial management authorities as well as the Minister for Civil Aviation, towards redressal of their genuine grievances. I fully endorse the demand raised by CGPI that the termination and suspension of Air India Union activists be immediately revoked. The attacks on the unions of workers in terms of “derecognition” and sealing of offices must be immediately ended.

Crisis in Europe

The economies of four countries of the Eurozone — Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy are in deep crisis. There are fears that there will be a domino effect on the economies of the rest of Europe, and.the EURO has fallen in relation to the Dollar. GDP statistics reveal that all four economies experienced zero or negative growth in the last quarter of 2009.
