August 6 and August 9 this year marked the 68th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki respectively. On the morning of August 6, 1945, US military aircraft dropped an atom bomb that exploded above the Japanese city of Hiroshima killing about 140,000 people in the initial blast, and in total more than 237,000.
Aimed at justifying violation of human rights and sovereignty
The US closed 19 of its diplomatic missions in Arab countries and Africa from August 4 onwards citing “terrorist threats”. The US imperialists claimed that they had intercepted “terrorist chatter” on the internet, pointing to an imminent attack on its diplomatic missions in the region.
Several thousand prison inmates participated in hunger strikes in jails in California, USA, from July 8 to protest against being kept in solitary confinement and being made to undergo cruel and inhuman punishment. The hunger strike had gone on for over 6 weeks when the jail officials won a court order allowing them to force feed inmates.
“Maruti, Go Back” - Battle cry of the Gujarat farmers
More than 5000 farmers and their family members from Hansalpur near Dalod village in Gujarat celebrated the Independence Day on 15th August with slogans of “Maruti, go back!” along with the hoisting of the flag. Maruti Suzuki company has announced a plan to invest Rs. 4000 crore for a big factory in the Bechraji-Hansalpur area.
The Central Executive of the All India Loco Running Staff Association (AILRSA) was held in Jain Dharamshala in Delhi on 8th August 2013 in an enthusiastic atmosphere. More than 50 members of the North-Western and South-East Railways attended the meeting.

Farmers commit suicide on the 66th Anniversary of Independence!
Four farmers of the Vidarbh region committed suicide on eve of the 66th anniversary of Independence. They have been driven to suicide due to failure of their crops twice in a row. In this year alone, the number of farmers dying in this manner has already crossed 518.

The all India general strike has been called to resolutely oppose the course of enriching the capitalist minority by impoverishing the toiling majority. It has been called to assert the rights that belong to workers, peasants and other toiling people who create the wealth of India.
