Rally in Fatehbad, Haryana against forcible land acquisition

A rally was taken out on 10th February, from Fatehbad city’s Lal Batti Chowk to the district headquarters, to protest against the forcible land acquisition for the proposed nuclear plant in Fatehbad district of Haryana. Hundreds of peasants from 15-20 villages in and around Gorakhpur village were present at this protest rally. Representatives of the Communist Ghadar Party were present to support the peasants’ protest rally.

The nuclear plant is to be located at Gorakhpur village in Fatehbad district. The soil here is very fertile. And about 25000 people live in Gorakhpur alone, who will be displaced. A 550-day old protest of peasants against the land acquisition for this nuclear plant is still continuing.

Peasants from various villages spoke at the rally, against the anti-people policy of land acquisition by the government. Nihal Singh from Mehtana village, Sri Subash ji, Sri Satyavan and Smt. Sudesh ji from Dhangad village, Sri Chandraji from Jandli village, Sri Neki Ram from Khajuri village, Sri.Satpal ji from Choubara village, Richpal from Mochi village and Comrade Krishnaswarup from Gorakhpur village were among those who addressed the gathering.

Dr. Mahavir and Com. Sharma, who had come in support of the peasants from Hissar put forward their views.

The concluding speech of the public meeting was given by comrade Hansraj Sivach, Head (Kishan Sangharsh Samiti, Gorakhpur).

Speaking on behalf of Lok Raj Sangathan, Comrade Dhunichand told the public meeting that land acquisition being carried out by the Central and the State governments for the proposed nuclear energy plant is a big attack on the rights to livelihood and homes for the farmers of this area. Such projects are implemented to serve the needs of the big capitalists and not to ensure the needs of the workers and peasants of the state.

The capitalist system is established in our country. The definition of progress is also capitalist. Naturally there is no place for the workers and peasants in such a definition. We can see that crores of uprooted and displaced farmers, tribal people and other village dwellers have been left to fend for themselves. They have been pushed back three generations due to this pathetic condition. At the same time, these projects have fattened the capitalist class of our country.

Until and unless people come to power, our problems will remain unresolved. This system is based on the loot of workers and peasants of the state. We have the rule of the capitalist class. Governments change in the interest of the capitalists. There is only one alternative to this system, i.e., bring people to power in place of the capitalists. We will have to put our program for the workers and peasants of our country to become the rulers in front of the people. We have to mobilize the workers and peasants around our program.

Working class representatives from all over the country are gathering on 4th September, at a time when a titanic struggle is going on in our country. The struggle is between the majority of toiling and exploited people and a minority of exploiters. It is between the majority whose labour expands wealth and the minority who enjoy the fruits of wealth creation on the basis of their private property and positions of power.
