According to a report published in the daily tribune on 6th July, 2012 the Employees Federation Circle of the Power Corporation released a united statement on July 5 that pointed out that there is an increase in employee accidents in the Power Corporation, due to increase in the work load and pressure by the management.

According to the press release the employees are not getting their weekly day off or the 8 hour duty time as per labour laws. The employees are facing serious problems due to the work load. In 2002-03 there were around 55 lakh connections in all of Punjab and around 85130 employees did the work. Whereas, in 2010-11 the number of connections had increased to around 73 lakh, but the number of employees has reduced to 55413.

It is not as though technology or the introduction of machines has reduced the work load on the employees. Rather work is going on in the same old fashion without any systemic change. The unions have demanded from the Corporation management and the Punjab government that the stated demands be fulfilled and outsourcing of the work be stopped.
