The 19th Bi-annual Zonal Convention of All India Loco Running Staff Association (AILRSA) was held in Ghaziabad on 3rd December 2012 in an atmosphere full of enthusiasm. Hundreds of loco pilots from different parts of India including Moradabad, Ghaziabad, Rohtak, Lucknow, Varanasi, and Delhi areas participated in the convention. Lok Raj Sangathan was also invited to the convention.

The zonal president of AILRSA inaugurated the convention by unfurling the organisation flag and paying floral tribute to the comrades who had laid down their lives. Office bearers of AIGC, TEAR, ASMA, URKU, Ghaziabad City Council Organisation (Ghaziabad Nagar-Nigam Sangh) and many other organisations participated and addressed the convention.

All the speakers stressed the need for maintaining the unity of loco running staff, and appealed to the workers to continue their struggle in support of their demands. Addressing the convention, General Secretary of AILRSA Comrade M N Prasad applauded all the office bearers and delegates present and gave further information on the National Industrial Tribunal (NIT).

Numbers of issues of Loco Running Staff are pending with the Railway administration like increase in pay grade, running allowances, working hours, arrangement to take adequate rest to ensure safety, filling of vacancies and warm clothes for winter, etc. The response of the Railway administration has been very negative on these demands of loco running staff. Now the issues have been taken to NIT, but the railway administration is not cooperating with the NIT. As a result there is a lot of unrest amongst the loco running staff.

Concluding the Convention Comrade Padam Gangwar thanked all the delegates and congratulated the activists of Delhi Zone for the success of the Convention.

A number of resolutions were tabled that took account ofthe struggles of loco pilots against their oppressive conditions of work and proposal to press ahead with them, which were adopted unanimously by the Convention.
