Farewell to Fidel

I am writing in response to the fitting tribute that appeared in the Dec. 16-31, 2016 issue of MEL to the memory of the great revolutionary leader Fidel Castro Ruz who passed away recently, in the article entitled `Farewell to the Undefeated Commandante, Fidel!'

The revolutionary leader was instrumental in the liberation of his country Cuba in 1959 from the clutches of the right-wing dictatorship headed by Batista, and for helping the brave people of that country brave decades of sanctions and aggression at the hands of the US imperialists and decades of encirclement.

Fidel Castro was also a friend of the people of India and a friend of all the people of the world who were fighting for their rights and in all anti-colonial struggles that raged around him from the time he was a young man.

It was inspiring to read about the sea of humanity that had gathered to bid him goodbye. Let us also join the people of Cuba and express our respect and love for him and his work and what he stood for. The work of people such as Fidel Castro will for ever be a beacon for all revolutionary workers across the world.

I am very happy to read also the words of the present Cuban President, Com. Raul Castro Ruz who summed up the work of his elder brother that reminded us that `...man is able to overcome the harshest conditions if his will to win does not yield, he makes an evaluation of each situation and does not renounce his noble and just principles.'

Let these words also guide us as we march towards a new beginning for mankind as it embarks on its unfulfilled quest.

Sincerely,

A. Narayan

Election manifesto of a CGPI supported candidate for Lok Sabha

Parties of the capitalist class claim that there is no alternative to the program of globalisation, liberalisation and privatisation. The truth is that there IS an alternative.

The alternative is to reorient the economy to fulfil people’s needs instead of fulfilling capitalist greed. This is the program for the Navnirman of India.

Manifesto 2014There is growing realisation among workers, peasants and other self-employed people that the program of liberalisation and privatisation only serves to enrich an exploiting minority at their expense. Mass resistance is growing to this anti-worker, anti-peasant and anti-national program. However, the working class is being prevented from realizing its potential as the leader of all the exploited, and as the grave-digger of capitalism, by those in the communist movement who are spreading harmful illusions and compromising the class struggle.
