The protestors who had organized to march from the Supreme Court to Parliament, were stopped right outside the Supreme Court and prevented by the Delhi police from going ahead. A militant rally was then held right outside the Supreme Court, in defiance of the police order, which was addressed by speakers of all the participating organisations.

Banners announcing the names of the participating organisations as well as banners bearing slogans such as “Down with state organized massacre of Sikhs in November 1984!”, “Down with state terrorism!”, “Let us unite to put an end to state-terrorism!”, “Punish the guilty of the genocide of 1984!” were placed all around the walls of the Supreme Court complex. Children and youth taking part in the rally held colourful placards bearing these and other slogans.

Addressing the rally, the president of Lok Raj Sangathan, S.Raghavan laid bare the communal foundations of the Indian state. Giving examples of the State-organised massacre of Sikhs in 1984, the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992-93, and the attacks on Muslims in Gujarat in 2002, he elaborated on how the State has been using the ‘divide and rule’ policy from 1857 to the present time, to break the fighting unity of our people and crush our struggles against oppression and injustice. He called upon the people to work to build a society in which people would be empowered and the rights of all would be guaranteed.

Pratap Singh, general Secretary of the Sikh Forum, Mushfiq Khan of the Association for the Protection of Civil Rights, Salim Engineer, General Secretary, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Dr. ND Pancholi from Citizens for Democracy, Advocate Shahid Ali, President, United Muslim Front, Shivmangal Siddhantkar, from CPI (M-L)-New Proletarian and Prakash Rao, Spokesperson of Communist Ghadar Party of India also addressed the rally.

All the speakers denounced the state which is communal and terrorist in nature, which routinely organizes communal violence against the people to break their unity. They all clearly pointed out that the genocide of 1984, like the numerous other cases of communal massacres, have all been state organized. The entire state machinery participated in aiding and abetting the murderous gangs. They pointed out how the media, controlled by the big corporate houses, continuously spews communal propaganda.

In particular, Prakash Rao of the Communist Ghadar Party of India elaborated on the fact that 150 capitalist houses rule India through a regime of pillage and loot, organizing bloody violence against citizens and keeping them divided with the assistance of mainstream political parties such as the Congress and the BJP. People do not have any right in this country apart from the right to vote. He called upon people to unite under a common banner and fight to take political power into their own hands.

The rally ended with rousing slogans “Down with state terrorism and state-organised communal violence!”, “Punish the guilty of November 1984!”, “Inquilab Zindabad!”
