Proposal to corporatize rail coach factory:Sangharsh Committee protests privatisation move

Members of the Railway Coach Factory (RCF) Sangharsh Committee have been agitating against the government’s proposal to privatise the coach manufacturing operations. The Committee has also been demanding that the Railway Board should roll back the proposal for corporatisation of the (RCF). The Sangharsh Committee announced on 10th July in Jalandhar that it would stop trains if this demand is not accepted.

The members of the Committee pointed out that the government is proposing to convert the RCF into Indian Railway Rolling Stock Company. The decision has been taken by the Railway Board without consulting the recognised trade unions. The Committee is also opposing the central government’s proposal to privatise seven production factories of railways in 100 days.

They announced their decision to stop trains as a last resort.Earlier, on 3rd July, the Sangharsh Committee carried out a massive protest in Kapurthala. Hundreds of protestors gathered and raised slogans against the government’s move to privatise the coach production factories.

The union members of Railway Coach Factory said that they will not backtrack and would continue the dharna until their demands are met for the proposals to be withdrawn.

Manifesto 2014There is growing realisation among workers, peasants and other self-employed people that the program of liberalisation and privatisation only serves to enrich an exploiting minority at their expense. Mass resistance is growing to this anti-worker, anti-peasant and anti-national program. However, the working class is being prevented from realizing its potential as the leader of all the exploited, and as the grave-digger of capitalism, by those in the communist movement who are spreading harmful illusions and compromising the class struggle.
