Hail the Great October Revolution!

Let us work to establish the rule of workers and peasants in our country!

On 7th November, the revolutionary workers, soldiers and sailors of Russia stormed the Winter Palace and arrested the representatives of the Provisional Government. They occupied the Ministries, the State Bank as well as the railway stations, post and telegraph offices. Led by the Bolshevik Party, the working class captured political power in Russia. This shook the entire world. It struck terror in the hearts of the capitalists of all countries. This inspired and gave hope to the oppressed people of the world.

The Revolution gave birth to a new state and society that put the working people at the centre. The new Soviet State expropriated the big capitalists and converted large-scale industry, transport, banking and trade into social enterprises under public ownership. It inspired the poor peasants to voluntarily pool their land and create large-scale collective farms. The production and distribution of all goods and services were brought under one single plan to fulfill the needs of all the working people. A new socialist economic system emerged, in which there was no unemployment, no inflation and no crises of any kind.

There were no longer any exploiting classes, no privileges for anyone. Every worker, peasant and soldier enjoyed the right to elect and be elected to the legislative bodies. They also enjoyed the right to recall those they elected at any time. The Soviet State created the conditions for women to break free from all forms of discrimination and enjoy equal status in all spheres of life. It guaranteed peace, prosperity and protection for all members of society. It strengthened the unity of all diverse nations and peoples who had joined hands to build the socialist system.

This whole experience opened the eyes of humanity to the realization that such a society can be created in which all members of society enjoy a dignified life fit for human beings. The October Revolution, by bringing an entirely new class, the working class, to power, inspired the workers and oppressed of all lands to embark on the same path.

Today our country and the whole world is in the grip of a severe crisis. Wars and genocide are rampant. The masses of working people everywhere are living in economic deprivation. At the other pole, a very tiny minority is appropriating the social wealth created by the labour of working people. The masses of people have no say in setting the course of society. They are completely marginalized by the political process.

There is a crying need for a fundamental and deep-going change in the system. This is why the October Revolution, the establishment of proletarian democracy and socialism hold valuable lessons for us today in spite of the fact that the system was subsequently destroyed.

The gradual restoration of capitalism in the former Soviet Union and its transformation into an imperialist power resulted in dangerous contention between the two super-powers – USSR and USA. It resulted in the arms race and the hostile division of the world. With the final collapse of the Soviet Union, the world has seen the brutal anti-social offensive and wars to achieve regime change and world domination by the U.S. imperialists. What has passed since 1989 has more than ever created the necessity for putting an end to this man-eating capitalist-imperialist system.

In our country, there is an urgent necessity to smash all the illusions kept alive about this system of capitalism, defended by the so-called secular and democratic Indian State and political process of multi-party representative democracy. No amount of prettifying it will ensure the liberation of the exploited and oppressed workers, peasants, women and youth.

It is with this concern for the present that we look at the past. We must learn from the past so as to deal with the present terrible situation, in a way that will open the path to a bright future for our people and for the workers and oppressed of all lands. We must do today what the Bolsheviks succeeded in doing more than a century ago. It was the Bolshevik party and its persistent work which created the condistions for the victory of revolution in 1917. Defending, developing and applying the science of Marxism to the concrete conditions of Russia, the Bolshevik party led the workers, peasants and soldiers to capture political power and to build the new society.

The Communist Ghadar Party of India was founded in December 1980 precisely in order to create the subjective conditions for revolution. Our Party’s agenda, since then, has been to prepare the conditions for the workers and peasants to become the rulers of India, to create a state and society, and which guarantees the prosperity and protection of all members of society.

Let us honour the memory of the Great October Revolution by creating the subjective conditions for the victory of proletarian revolution in our country!

Working class representatives from all over the country are gathering on 4th September, at a time when a titanic struggle is going on in our country. The struggle is between the majority of toiling and exploited people and a minority of exploiters. It is between the majority whose labour expands wealth and the minority who enjoy the fruits of wealth creation on the basis of their private property and positions of power.
