Western Railway workers oppose private trains

Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh (WRMS) organised a protest on 10th January at Mumbai Central station to oppose the privatisation and outsourcing of Railway trains on outside the office of the Divisional Railway Manager. The meeting was addressed by J G Mahurkar general secretary of Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh (WRMS) and Vice President of NFIR (National Federation of Indian Railwaymen).

The Railway Ministry has announced its plan to handover running of 150 trains on 100 routes to private companies. The first private train is already running between Delhi-Lucknow and the second private train on Mumbai-Ahmedabad route will start on 17th Jan. Protesters asked the Centre to drop plans to “privatise” train running operations.

A conference was also held by Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh in Mumbai from 8th to 10th January 2020 to protest against outsourcing, privatisation and selling of Railways. The conference also discussed railway’s performance, role of rail workforce and Railway Ministy’s policies.
