Condemn the proposed Maharashtra Protection of Internal Security Act

The BJP-ruled Maharashtra government has released the draft of Maharashtra Protection of Internal Security Act (MPISA) on August 20 and asked for "suggestions and objections" of people. Past experience of people has shown that the government has no desire to seek enlightened opinion of the working class and people. Its real intent is to manufacture consent of the people for this fascist law.

Fountainhead of fascism and war

This is being written in response to the article entitled '71 years after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki' in the August 16-31, 2016 issue of MEL that carries the byline `US imperialism remains the fountainhead of fascism and war'. The Indian State perpetuates caste discrimination and oppression

Emancipation of Dalits from caste oppression can come only through the class struggle of the proletariat to end all forms of exploitation and discrimination

Nearly 70 years after independence, the scourge of caste oppression continues to haunt India. Numerous dalits are killed every year for daring to challenge the caste system. Dalit women are mercilessly raped and beaten.  Marriage of a dalit man with a higher caste woman is punished in the most heinous manner.  Dalits face discrimination on a daily basis and continue to do the most menial jobs.

Whose interests will GST serve?

Modi dishes out one more lie to the people

The Goods and Services Tax Bill that amends the constitution to enable the GST reform was passed in the Lok Sabha on August 8, 2016. It was earlier passed by the Rajya Sabha. The bill will now be sent to state assemblies for ratification. A few states have already begun ratifying the same, and the government hopes to start implementation from April 2017.

Gujarat land acquisition bill passed

Furthering the interests of the big monopoly capitalists

The Gujarat Land Acquisition Bill, which was passed in the Gujarat Assembly on March 31, received Presidential assent on August 8. Named the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Gujarat Amendment) Bill, 2016,this bill amends many of the terms and conditions of the Central Land Acquisition Act introduced by the UPA government in 2013. It is expected to be implemented from August 15, according to the government announcement.

Justifying state terrorism in the name of “combatting terror”

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh recently announced that the Central government is working on a plan to provide legal protection to security agencies such as the IB and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which conduct undercover operations on “suspected terrorist organisations”. At a conference of officials of the Intelligence Bureau and other investigating agencies, the Home Minister is reported to have said that “The government is committed to punishing terrorists.
