Call to intensify struggle after the State government reneges on assurances

Vote for strike against privatisation and contract system

The process of voting on the call for an all Rajasthan strike given by the All Rajasthan State Government Employees Joint Federation started on 16th January 2017. This was kicked off in Hanumangarh district. The voting will go on until 25 January. Subsequently, it will be decided how the Federation will respond to the oppressive policies of the government.

The Rajasthan state government employees have been agitating for the past several months on the issues of contract system, privatisation, PPP model, and equal pay for similar work, regularisation of temporary workers, etc. The Employees’ Federation started this agitation on 18th November 2016, after submitting a petition to the Chief Minister through the District Collector. Subsequently, the agitation has been moving ahead by taking up different activities like employees consciousness raising campaigns, dharnas at the district headquarters, submitting petitions to MPs, MLAs and representatives of the people, etc.

As is well-known, the All Rajasthan State Government Employees Joint Federation had given a call to hold demonstrations in front of all the tehsil (revenue sub-division) offices on 29th December 2016 throughout Rajasthan. During the demonstrations, the employees had submitted a 15 point charter of demands to the Chief Minister through the tehsildar. According to the information received, such demonstrations took place in all districts and tehsils of Rajasthan.

As part of this program, the Vice President of Lok Raj Sangathan, Comrade Hanuman Prasad Sharma and other members along with the state government employees held a dharna in the Nohar tehsil of Hanumangarh district. State government employees also held dharnas in other tehsils of the district – in Bhadra, Tibbi, Rawatsar, Pilibanga and submitted petitions. Many office-bearers of the State Government Employees Federation took part in these actions and addressed the gathering. Those who addressed the gathering in Nohar tehsil included the Vice President of Lok Raj Sangathan, Comrade Hanuman Prasad Sharma, the State President of Agricultural Supervisors Union, Shri Ramesh Khatotia, Shri Bhanwar Singh of Teachers Union (Progressive), Shri Sitaram Vyas of the Management Union, etc.

The Federation has placed a 15-point demand before the State Government with respect to appointments, transfers, minimum wage, equal pay for similar work and other allowances across all categories of employees.
