Proposal to corporatize rail coach factory:Sangharsh Committee protests privatisation move

Railway Coach Factory Members of the Railway Coach Factory (RCF) Sangharsh Committee have been agitating against the government’s proposal to privatise the coach manufacturing operations. The Committee has also been demanding that the Railway Board should roll back the proposal for corporatisation of the (RCF). The Sangharsh Committee announced on 10th July in Jalandhar that it would stop trains if this demand is not accepted.

Members of the Railway Coach Factory (RCF) Sangharsh Committee have been agitating against the government’s proposal to privatise the coach manufacturing operations. The Committee has also been demanding that the Railway Board should roll back the proposal for corporatisation of the (RCF). The Sangharsh Committee announced on 10th July in Jalandhar that it would stop trains if this demand is not accepted.

The members of the Committee pointed out that the government is proposing to convert the RCF into Indian Railway Rolling Stock Company. The decision has been taken by the Railway Board without consulting the recognised trade unions. The Committee is also opposing the central government’s proposal to privatise seven production factories of railways in 100 days.

The Sangarsh Committee has been organising gate rallies for the past many days and sending missives to the Minister of Railways to get the decision withdrawn but they have not been heard. They announced their decision to stop trains as a last resort.Earlier, on 3rd July, the Sangharsh Committee carried out a massive protest in Kapurthala. Hundreds of protestors gathered and raised slogans against the government’s move to privatise the coach production factories.

The union members of Railway Coach Factory said that they will not backtrack and would continue the dharna until their demands are met for the proposals to be withdrawn.
