Demonstration against price rise of cooking gas

The Jan Sangharsh Manch, Haryana held a demonstration to oppose the hefty hike in cooking gas prices in front of the office of the District Collector of Kurukshetra, Haryana. Through the Deputy Collector a petition for the Prime Minister was submitted to the the DRO of Kurukshetra. Senior leader of Jan Sangharsh Manch Haryana, Chandra Rekha and its General Secretary, Sudesh Kumari led the protesters from the New Bus Stand to the Office of the DC, Kurukshetra. They shouted slogans against the State Government and held a dharna at the DC office.

Those who addressed the demonstrators included the General Secretary Sudesh Kumari, Chandra Rekha, Usha Kumari, District Chief, Sansar Chandra, Spokesperson Dr. Lahna Singh, Somnath and others from the Jan Sangharsh Manch Haryana, MNREGA union leader Mewaram and District Chief of the Nirman Karya Mazdoor Mistri Union, Chandiram, etc.

Speakers said that the Central Government has steeply raised the prices of cooking gas. This hike is extremely unfair. The burden of the hikes in the prices of diesel, petrol, cooking gas, commercial gas also falls on the poor.

Speakers said that in the Union Budget, government has substantially cut down on the subsidy on food grains and other items. On the other hand, it has waived off crores of rupees of loans taken by the corporate houses. Government has also substantially reduced the tax burden of the corporate houses. The common man is getting looted every day through unemployment and price rises.

Speakers explained that 73 percent of wealth of the county is owned by only one percent of the population while 99 percent of the population has only 27 percent wealth. Unemployment and prices are at the peak in 45 years. There is economic slowdown in the country. Modi and Khattar governments are diverting the attention of the people by raising unconstitutional and communal issues like CAA, NRC and NPR and want people to fight one another on these.

They called upon the people to escalate and sustain the struggle to force the government to fulfil the demands of the people.
